Being the Hands and Feet of Jesus as a Family

At Lake Magdalene Church, we believe that mission is not just something we do—it’s who we are as followers of Jesus. And one of the most beautiful ways to live that out is by serving together as a family. When parents, kids, and even grandparents step into the community side by side, something powerful happens: families grow closer to one another while drawing closer to Christ.

Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” As families, we’re called to reflect Christ’s love not only in our homes, but also in the way we care for our neighbors.

Here are some practical ways your family can be the hands and feet of Jesus in our Tampa community

Serve a Meal Together

Many local shelters and food ministries welcome families to help prepare or serve meals. Children can hand out drinks or dessert while parents serve on the line, showing that no act of kindness is too small.

Adopt a Neighbor in Need

Do you know a widow, single parent, or elderly neighbor nearby? Offer to mow their lawn, help with grocery shopping, or simply stop by with a homemade meal. Small gestures can teach kids the value of noticing and loving people right next door.

Create Care Kits

Gather as a family to put together hygiene kits, snack bags, or encouragement notes for those experiencing homelessness. Keep them in your car so you’re always ready to bless someone in need.

Volunteer at Church Together

Whether it’s greeting on Sunday morning, helping with children’s ministry, or joining a mission project, serving side by side at Lake Magdalene Church teaches kids that church is not just something you attend—it’s something you are part of.

Practice Everyday Kindness

Teach your children to hold the door for someone, return a shopping cart, or compliment a stranger. These simple actions cultivate servant hearts that carry into bigger mission opportunities.

Pray as You Serve

Make serving a spiritual practice. Before you step out as a family, pause to pray: “Lord, help us to see people the way You see them, and give us the courage to love like You do.”

At Lake Magdalene Church, our mission is to share the love of Jesus with all people and lead them into a life forever changed in Christ. When families serve together, that mission comes alive—not just in our community, but also in the hearts of each family member.

So gather your crew, roll up your sleeves, and let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus—together. Serve the 74,000!
